Position Description: Manager of Patient Navigation, Brain Tumor Network

Organization
Brain Tumor Network (BTN), a nonprofit organization launched by The Sontag Foundation in late
2014, is committed to providing unique personalized navigational services to patients in the USA
who have been diagnosed with a primary brain tumor and to oncology professionals providing care
to those patients. Navigation services are provided by credentialed nurses and social workers - all
without cost to patients, caregivers or medical professionals so that patients can make better
informed decisions about their treatment programs. BTN provides high touch patient navigation in
the following ways: a) helping locate medical providers with expertise in treating brain tumors, b)
facilitating consultations/second opinions including gathering relevant medical records and sharing
with treating physician in advance of first appointment, c) providing a personalized list of Clinical
Trial options for patients and physicians, including vetting trial status and facilitating consultations
at trial sites, d) discussing diagnosis and treatment options in lay terms e) recommending
ancillary/supplemental and support services, and f) maintaining communication and providing a
sounding board throughout the course of treatment. For additional information see:

Position
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager of Patient Navigation will manage the activities of
the nurse and social work navigation team working from both the BTN headquarters and from
remote locations. This full-time role (5 days/week) is pivotal in ensuring the delivery of high-quality,
patient-centered navigation support.
Responsibilities:
Drive process improvement to ensure appropriate mechanisms are in place for efficient, high
touch navigation support that incorporates best practices
Develop tools and implement procedures for hiring staff and coordinate the onboarding
process
Assess skillsets of existing staff (currently 9 nurse navigators and 3 social workers), and
identify opportunities for continued education and professional growth and development for
staff within navigation
Integrate patient navigation performance metrics and work collaboratively with leadership
to report and assess those metrics
Oversee and evaluate the performance of all nurse and social work navigators and perform
routine employee performance evaluations as required from time to time by company
policy.
Implement programs and procedures to harmonize the work of home office-based and
remote navigation teams and balance the caseloads among all navigators
Serve and/or become a leader in local and national associations involved with patient

Coordinate with BTN operations on providing clinical trial evaluations and recommendations
as well as for gathering patient medical records
Represent the organization at conferences and other events as needed
Update Executive Director regularly regarding operational challenges and opportunities
Undertake other duties as assigned by Executive Director
Qualifications
Degree in nursing, social work or other similar field relevant to the mission of BTN
15+ years of progressive management responsibility; experience in nursing/social work field
preferred
Team player with proven motivational and staff leadership abilities; “can do” attitude with
strong sense of accountability
Strong written and oral communication skills
