Note: The template pieces for all the star points are the same size.
So don’t stress to much over the color because the colors can be
rearrange at any time simply by moving the fabric around after they
are cut.
Note: If you are curious, and want to know how the colors are used
in the quilt, refer to page 15, Illustration 1 to see the position of
each color in the Four Block Color Layout.
1. The strips for the medium star fabrics are cut 10” by 42”
wide. Refer to
Line 19
on the cutting chart, page 17, for the
number of strips to cut from each of the eight colors.
* Note: If you are making the 6 by 7 ring layout please refer to
the special cutting note in Booklet Two for the 80” by 90” layout.
2. Crosscut the strips into 7” by 10” pieces. Refer to
Line 20
on
the cutting chart,
page 17, for the number of pieces to cut from
each color.
3. Separate the pieces by color, then re-stack the pieces
right-
side-up.
The colors are divided into two (2) groups.
Group 1: Colors, 1, 2, 7, & 8 are placed in group 1. These
pieces are used to cut the medium center star points. Re-
fer to
Line 21
on the cutting chart, page 17, for the num-
ber of pieces needed from each color. Clip together the
pieces for each color, then place them with the
Medium
Center Star, Template Layout Sheets
in Bag #4.
Group 2: Colors, 3, 4, 5, & 6 are placed in group 2. These
pieces are used to cut the medium melon star points. Re-
fer to
Line 22
on the cutting chart, page 17, for the num-
ber of pieces needed from each color. Clip together the
pieces for each color, then place them with the
Medium
Melon Star, Template Layout Sheets
in Bag #5.
Group 1: Medium Center Star

Colors 1, 2, 7, and 8
1. Stack the 7” by 10
medium star pieces into
four (4) stacks.
2. Position one (1) copy of the
Medium Cen-
ter Star, Template Layout Sheet
onto each
stack.
3. Place a ruler onto the
Template Lay-
out Sheet
. Line up the edge of the ruler
with Line 1. Slice through the paper and
fabrics with your rotary cutter.
4. Repeat the same cutting process for
each stack until all the pieces are cut
for your quilt.
5. Clip the templates and fabric pieces together for each sec-
tion with a binder clip. Place the CMS-1 template pieces into
Bag #4 with the foundation papers for
Unit CMS
.
Group 2: Medium Melon Star,
Template Layout Sheet: Bag #5.
Colors 3, 4, 5, and 6
1. Stack the 7 by 10”
medium star pieces into
four (4) stacks.
2. Position one (1) copy of
the
Medium Melon Star,
Template Layout Sheet
onto each stack.
3. Place a
ruler onto
the
Template Layout Sheet
. Line up
the edge of the ruler with Line 1. Slice
through the paper and fabrics with your
rotary cutter.
4. Repeat the same cutting process for
each stack until all the pieces are cut
for your quilt.
* Note: Remember, if you are making the 6x7 ring layout please refer
to the special cutting note in Booklet Two for the 80” x 90” layout.
5. Clip the templates and fabric pieces together for each
section with a binder clip. Place the M-1 template pieces into Bag
#5 with the foundation papers for
Unit M.
Foundation Paper Piecing: CDS Units: Bag #3

for the number of units needed for your quilt.
Step 1: Place the CDS unit
right-side-up
on your table and
position as shown.
Step 2: Find Sec. 1 on the foundation paper. Place a small
amount of fabric glue on the
wrong-side
of the paper under
Sec. 1.
Note: When adding the glue to the paper, take one very light swipe
with the glue stick. The glue is used to adhere the fabric temporarily
to the foundation paper until both pieces have been sewn to the paper.
Step 3: Position the fabric piece for Sec. 1
wrong-
side-up
on your table. Lift the foundation paper and
position Sec. 1 over the top of the fabric
as shown. Make sure the under-
neath side of Sec. 1 is covered
with the fabric.
Step 4: Place the
fold template over the top of
Sec. 1, lining up the edge of the
fold template on
Line 1.
Step 5: Fold the leg of the star
point back over the top of the
fold template.

Note: Before you sew your blocks together, look the quilt over closely for any mistakes. If the A and B units are not
positioned properly in your quilt layout the corner blocks will not match up. If something doesn’t work out, start checking
your blocks. You may have sewn the colors onto your corner sections wrong, or you may have twisted the position of the
A and B units when sewing them into the squares. These mistakes are very easily made, but can be fixed without to much
effort if you find them before you complete your quilt.
