RP/NM/da/School Uniform letter
10th May 2024
Dear Parents/Carers
This letter gives you advance notice of the actions we are taking to ensure Bloxwich
Academy pupils are all in the correct uniform. Please read it carefully, as you may need to
take action so your child is not sanctioned for not wearing uniform correctly.
As we shall make clear in this letter, there is no excuse for not wearing correct uniform.
Any pupil who does not wear correct uniform will be sanctioned appropriately, up to and
including suspension from school.
Why is uniform so important?
At Bloxwich Academy we believe that every pupil should be treated equally and with respect.
This right to equality is a value that is enshrined in our six school values, values that are the
foundations of our drive to make our school a bastion of academic success. It is our uniform
that creates a sense of equality, a sense that we all belong to the same community of
learners, to our school.
Bloxwich children deserve the absolute best, and this is why we take such a strong view on
the importance of uniform. The simple fact is we are known by our uniform: it is the first
thing that visitors and our community sees as our pupils arrive to and leave from school;
when we are on school trips, it is our uniform that tells venues where we are from.
Why are we communicating this now?
We felt it important to give a clear set of guidelines on uniform now to ensure everyone has
the time and opportunity to prepare for September. We know from experience that uniform
in Asda, Sainsbury’s and Tesco is often the cheapest and their stocks can run low very quickly
as the new school year approaches. Badges and ties can of course be purchased in school, so
we will ensure that we have enough to supply those pupils who need to buy them from us.
What if my child loses an item of uniform and cannot replace it in time?
If your child has an issue with uniform, e.g. not being able to find their tie in the morning,
they must make their house leader aware of this during line up. Please be aware that
sanctions may well be given at this stage if pupils do not comply with our uniform
expectations.
These are the uniform issues we are currently having to address most frequently. If these
apply to your child, please support us by speaking with them to avoid us having to sanction
them in school.
Trainers, crocs and flip-flops being worn in place of school shoes. At any one time
there may only be a couple of children not wearing school shoes who have a short-term
medical issue. These children have stickers in their planners. If your child ever has such
an issue, you must make the school aware through the House office or our postbox email,
Wearing hoodies, tracksuit tops and coats under blazers. This is not allowed.
Nose studs, hooped earrings, bracelets and piercings of the face and tongue. None of
these are allowed.
Dresses, vest tops, and midriff jumpers are not allowed.
Fashion belts (Valentino, etc) must not be worn.
We expect all pupils to always wear correct uniform. We are stepping up the sanctions for
uniform issues as follows.
Straight after half term, week beginning 4th of June
We are stepping up the sanctions for wearing leggings, as they are not acceptable in
school.
From September
We will be applying the same sanctions to skin-tight skirts and skirts that do not rest
on or below the knee.
Please be aware that we hold the right to sanction pupils with unacceptably short skirts with
immediate effect from the time you receive this letter.
Our full uniform policy is located on the school website and detailed for you below,
including PE kit and daily equipment required in lessons.
Please be advised that all decisions regarding uniform are at the discretion of the
Headteacher.
Thank you for your continued support.
Yours sincerely
Mr R Prime
Headteacher
