Description
The MI Future Educator Stipend provides $9,600 to our future educators who are participating in their required student
teaching semester.
Application
Students must complete an application. To complete the application or check the status, the student can log into the
MiSSG Student Portal at michigan.gov/missg. The application opens May 1 of each year and closes July 15 of the
following year. Fall student teachers may apply beginning May 1, Spring student teachers November 1, and Summer
student teachers April 1.
Eligibility
To be eligible for an award, a student must:
Have completed the MI Future Educator Stipend application.
Be admitted into an eligible Educator Preparation Program (EPP).
Be working towards teacher certification.
Be participating full-time or its equivalency in required student teaching coursework.
Full-time enrollment in required student teaching coursework.
Have 300 or more student contact hours while student teaching.
Not be employed by the district as a teacher of record.
Be maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress.
Program Limits
Award amount is up to $9,600 per semester for the applicant’s full time, required student teaching semester.
Award amount is not to be counted towards regular financial aid eligibility. Institutions are to pay the student teacher
the award amount in full.
Students are limited to one MI Future Educator Stipend, unless their EPP specifically requires they complete more than
one semester/term of student teaching in order to become a certified teacher.
MI Future Educator Stipend is available on a first-come first-served basis. Current and future awards are subject to
approved and available funding.

Educator Preparation Providers are established and maintained by the Michigan Department of
Education (MDE).
Awards are based on the institution listed on the application.
The student is responsible for notifying MI Student Aid of any changes of address or college choice.
It is the responsibility of the student to be informed of all eligibility requirements and program rules.
